Schotia Safaris is the oldest private game reserve in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, bordering the eastern side of Addo Elephant National Park. Schotia Private Game Reserve is located just a short drive from Port Elizabeth, Addo, Port Alfred or Grahamstown.
Enjoy your Safari in South Africa on this malaria free reserve, which is probably the most densely stocked reserve in Africa, and with over 40 mammal species and approximately 2000 animals, can offer consistently good game viewing throughout the year.
Schotia was the first reserve in the Cape Province to have free roaming lions and we can almost guarantee sightings of these magnificent animals on every Schotia Tooth & Claw game drive.
The Eastern Cape Private Game Reserve is owned, managed and run ‘hands on’ by the Bean family, who are now in their sixth generation and have owned the original farm, Orlando, since the early 1800’s.
With over 25 years of experience in the safari business, Peter and his team have created a unique, relaxed and truly South African Safari experience at Schotia. Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve has a huge open air lapa, reputedly among the largest in South Africa. It has reed and sneezewood walls and is open to the African skies, except for the outer ring where a traditionally thatched roof covers the dining tables and bar area.
Inside the lapa there are several large ‘Schotia’ trees and a roaring log fire. Dinner is usually a mix of safari cuisine and traditional South African cooking; the exact menu depends on what is available on the day.
At Schotia Safaris our guests not only experience the large herds of Elephant in the Addo Elephant National Park, but also get closer to a wide variety of animal species within the Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve. At Schotia Safaris, guests are spoilt with closer experiences with the Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, Elephant, Giraffe, Hippo, Crocodile and various other antelope and bird species that have made the private game reserve their home.
Schotia Safaris’ experienced guides have a vast knowledge of the area as well as the animals, which ensures rewarding game viewing and some of the best South African safari experiences!
After the day’s safari with the family, enjoy the “African Feel” at our family friendly bush lodges. All set within dense subtropical thicket, with a rustic-brick look and thatched roofs, they provide comfort that you would expect of a top class reserve – they are all en suite with a shower/bathroom with running hot and cold water and coffee/tea making facilities.
What they do lack is the trappings of the modern world – satellite TV, 24 hour room service and electricity (don’t worry – we can still charge cameras and batteries for you)!
There are 3 private tented camps with a total of 4 tents. One camp offers two tents of which one has two single beds and the other a queen bed.
The tented camps offer complete freedom as every encampment is safely nestled in private clusters of bush, leaving our guests surrounded by luscious greenery, trees, singing birds, antelope and the roaring of the lions giving it’s natural uninterrupted feel.
Each tented camp has been built with great personal attention to every detail, from old style donkey boilers, luxurious private bathrooms with views of the beautiful landscape and outdoor showers.
Dinners are held at our authentic African styled lapa area, where our guests can enjoy the welcoming ambiance of a camp fire. The traditional South African meals are sure to satisfy the taste buds after a hard day of game viewing.
For those wanting some exclusivity and privacy, enjoy one of our Honeymoon Safari Suites. These rustic-brick and thatched lodges are set within dense subtropical thicket within Schotia Private Game Reserve.
Enjoy the comforts you would expect of a top class reserve – en suite shower/bathroom with running hot and cold water and coffee/tea making facilities.
