EXPLORING JBAY AND NEARBY TRAILS: HIKING ADVENTURES AWAIT!

Kabeljouws Nature Reserve

The Kabeljous Nature Reserve is located north of Jeffreys Bay and offers the visitor a 3.5 km coastline complete with dune thickets, forests, bushveld, and wetlands. For the avid hiker, there are various 3 – 7 km walks where you may be lucky enough to see bushbuck, duiker, bushpig, grysbok, caracal, mongoose, or even some of the 100 species of birds that are found in the reserve.

The area contains irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind biodiversity, with at least 16 plant species of special conservation concern; an endangered ecosystem type known as Humansdorp Shale Renosterveld; and five bird species of special conservation concern, including the highly endangered Black Harrier.

A picnic area is available at the estuary.

A team of dedicated volunteers maintain this beautiful reserve and the very popular sunset / moonrise walks are held on a regular basis as a fundraising project.

NOORSEKLOOF NATURE RESERVE

Noorsekloof Nature Reserve is located in the heart of Jeffreys Bay and boasts a roughly 3km, fairly even hike with a couple of tricky spots over rougher terrain. It is a small conservation site, more like a park, and is made up of valley bushveld and home to over 50 bird species.

The Noorsekloof Nature Reserve was declared a conservation reserve in 1984. The trail runs alongside a stream from which you can see near 50 species of bird and if you’re lucky, some small buck. Paradise flycatchers tend to be very tame & can offer some very enjoyable moments as they flutter around catching insects.  The reserve covers 28 hectare of land stretching from the golden beaches up the valley side through Wavecrest.
The reserve gained its name because of the abundance of Noorsboom (trees) or giant Euphorbia Triangularus in the area. If you are a lover of birds, watch out for the Knysna Woodpecker and the immaculate Knysna Loerie.

It is a great hike for families to enjoy.  Please just respect the wildlife and residents staying around the trail.

Enjoy the kloof and please help preserve it.

Entrances in Dogwood and Leadwood Streets.
